Kangaroo Christmas

QTY:

Original design, handpainted Australian pine wood tree decoration, featuring a Kangaroo with her baby, a 'Joey' decorated with a Waratah flower.  The Kangaroo is Australia's best known and largest living marsupial, which has become recognised as Australia's national animal.  The Red Kangaroo is the largest of the 45 species weighing up to 90kgs.  Kangaroos live almost entirely on plants and they move by great bounding leaps on their hind legs, with the tail used for balance. They prefer to live in groups and can travel at speeds of up to 65km/h.  They are normally of a gentle disposition.

The Waratah -Telopea speciosissima - is the floral emblem of the State of New South Wales.  The large, bright crimson flowerhead actually consists of as many as 240 small flowers densely packed into a dome-shaped head measuring up to 15 cm across, and is surrounded by a collar of large red, smooth bracts.  It is a bird-attracting plant, providing large quantities of nectar for a variety of honeyeaters. The Waratah originates and grows wildly in hilly areas near Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong, and on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range.  It flowers during spring, October to November.

Designed by Carolyn Fletcher and signed and numbered by the Artist.   Size: 13 x 6 cms
